ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE MURALS
with great students at Matthew Patterson Elementary School in Patterson, NY. Since 2003, I have worked with the fourth grade, painting a mural for their hallway. The last mural with the fourth grade was completed in October 2008 and depited the history of
the Paterson, NY area and included historic architecture, the town seal, and the Great Swamp among others. This past week, I worked with the entire third grade for the first time and completed "Passport To The World" in homage to their Passport Day at school. The students all have a different country they learn about and visit the other 'countries' throughout the day.
During the Mural Project, the students helped me from the start of the day to the end before dismissal in groups of four. By the end of the week, it is truly a work of art that cannot be completed without each of them. While I bring my artisitc knowledge to share with them, I always work with them on the subject they are learning to make it a more well rounded experience.
It is such an amazing opportunity to work with them. I am hoping to be able to work with MPES and other school districts in the future.
